• As we know, multicast uses class D addresses

• • 224.0.0.0 – 239.255.255.255

• Some well known multicast addresses

• • 224.0.0.1: All hosts and routers
  • 224.0.0.2: All routers
  • 224.0.0.4: All DVMRP routers
  • 224.0.0.5: All OSPF routers
  • 224.0.0.9: All RIPv2 routers
  • 224.0.0.13: All PIM routers
  • 224.0.1.1: NTP (Network Time Protocol)
  • 224.0.1.22: SLP (Service Location Protocol)
  • 224.0.1.75: SIP (Session Initiation Protocol)

• When a multicast address is needed by an application it must dynamically choose the address.
