Broadcast Addresses
Sometimes it is necessary for an IP packet to be broadcast to all hosts on a subnet
Each network typically uses a broadcast address with all 1’s in the host part
- 26.255.255.255
- 128.66.255.255
- 192.178.16.255
The address 255.255.255.255 is also used for local-network (limited) broadcast
- Routers must never forward these packets
- Exception: DHCP/BOOTP relay agents change destination address
