Extension Headers

• Rather than options, extension headers are used

• • Inserted after the v6 header, before the transport header
  • Gets around the 40-byte limit on IPv4 options

• Current extension headers

• • Hop-by-hop (each router looks at this)
  • Destination options (for intermediate destinations when routing header is used)
  • Routing
  • Fragmentation
  • Authentication (IPsec AH)
  • Encapsulating Security Payload (IPsec ESP)
  • Destination options (for final destination)
