Packet Size Issues
In IPv6, the minimum link MTU is 1280 bytes
- Recommended MTU is 1500 bytes
All sources are expected to perform path MTU discovery for all destinations
All routers and hosts are allowed to send up to 64K-byte packets
- If the MTU allows the size
- Even larger packets can be sent by setting the length field to 0 and using the “jumbogram” hop-by-hop option
