Packet Size Issues

• In IPv6, the minimum link MTU is 1280 bytes

• • Recommended MTU is 1500 bytes

• All sources are expected to perform path MTU discovery for all destinations

• All routers and hosts are allowed to send up to 64K-byte packets

• • If the MTU allows the size
  • Even larger packets can be sent by setting the length field to 0 and using the “jumbogram” hop-by-hop option
