Is IPv6 Really Going to Happen?

• For a long time, the answer was “maybe”

• Today, the answer is “definitely”

• All of the pieces are in place

• • Mature, tested technical standard
  • Support from major operating system and router vendors
  • Interest from service providers
  • User need, frustration with v4
  • Requirements for future wireless infrastructure providers
  • Limited commercial deployments

• But, even if v6 deploys widely tomorrow, v4 will be around for many, many years
