1960-65:
- Leonard Kleinrock and Paul Baran conduct initial research on packet switched networks
1966-68:
- ARPANET, the first wide-area packet switched network, is proposed
- AT&T turns down ARPA’s offer to build the ARPANET
- ARPA awards ARPANET contracts to UCLA and BBN
